What We Do

Made for Me Books identifies books illuminate the Black, Indigenous, Asian, Latino and Middle Eastern diasporas - then provide them FREE to young people all over Harlem. These are the stories and characters and authors that are least represented in the books that are more widely available.

We secure new books and do pop-up events around Harlem so that all young people can build diverse home libraries.  Our work encourages people to read and seek out books that share a diversity of American experiences. With this, we hope to develop more engaged readers, thoughtful neighbors - and stronger community relationships.

Made for Me Books brings BOOK POP-UP events to neighbors at community block parties, at NYCHA family days, to local schools, and with community groups.  We have a van, tents and tables and provide our community a BOOK FAIR experience - but it's FREE !

We can work with you to host a 2-3 hour BOOK POP-UP, offer FREE books, organize some storytime readings and have fun activities to help family engage with the stories.
